It is recommended to consult with a vacuum technology expert to help you make an informed decision.
The only notable defect is that fan cover plate on motors side has a rather large crack in it see picture 9 which I glued back together for proper fit. The Leybold SV40 bi is a single stage, rotary vane vacuum pump. However, the screw threads still attach fan well enough, and itself is undamaged runs just fine so this does not affect operation of pump in any way, but I wanted to make sure all defects were properly described up front.
The sealing surfaces in particular are still fantastic shape.
Testing: I connected this pump up to a Thermopylae vacuum gauge and powered it. See the last picture showing pump in operation and being tested. Shipping details: offer is for the Leybold SV40 bi vacuum pump as pictured. The pump ran very smoothly and quietly, reached an ultimate operating pressure of 15 military, which is fantastic for a single stage such as this.
Aside from the fan cover everything else looks great there are only minor scuffs and scratches one typically expects used equipment. With an operating pressure of 15 military this pump should still have a very long life ahead it before needing any rebuild services if properly cared for. This pump is in good physical condition.
After testing the pump was drained of oil and placed into storage with flanges covered to protect against dust. This pump came from a retired mass spectrometer local university. They are renowned for being exceptionally reliable, long lasting vacuum pumps.
Of particular note is this pumps motor wired only for 220-240v operation. Items shown in pictures showing the pump testing such as Thermopylae gauge, controller, and flanges are not included. The mating screw threads on motor body which fan cover plate attaches to is also damaged see picture 10 so it looks like someone tried pick pump up by covers and ended cracking damaging. Instead of regurgitating all the relevant hardware specifications here I will simply link and operation manual.
Item condition: for sale is a Leybold SV40 bi vacuum pump.
